Federal Officials Warn Against Jamaican Chicken Sausage Found in US Stores

2 min read

Shoppers across Texas and several other states are being urged to check their pantries after the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a health alert regarding specific canned chicken sausages. The warning focuses on Grace Ready to Eat Chicken Vienna Sausages, including both the original and hot and spicy varieties packaged in 140 gram cans. While many consumers typically associate such alerts with outbreaks of foodborne illness, officials clarified that this particular warning stems from illegal importation practices rather than reported sicknesses.

According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, these products were brought into the United States from Jamaica, a country that is currently ineligible to export meat or poultry products to American markets. Investigators are still working to determine exactly how the shipment entered the country and made its way onto retail shelves. Although the focus remains heavily on Texas, the contaminated imports were also distributed to stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Maryland.

Consumers can identify the affected items by looking for the establishment number EST NO G 01 located inside the Jamaica mark of inspection on the label. To date, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or illnesses linked to eating the sausages, but federal agents remain concerned that many cans could still be sitting in homes throughout the region.

Health officials advise anyone who purchased these specific sausages to avoid eating them immediately. Instead, customers should either discard the product or take it back to the store where it was bought for a refund. Those who have already consumed the sausage and feel unwell are encouraged to reach out to their primary healthcare provider for guidance.
