A quiet neighborhood in Tamarac became the scene of a devastating tragedy Friday night when a twenty eight year old man allegedly stabbed his mother to death. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at a residence on Northwest 28th Avenue around 7:45 p.m., where they discovered fifty eight year old Ylda Cabello-Ynocente with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving her family shattered by the sudden loss.
The suspect, Manuel Farfan-Cabello, was arrested shortly after the attack and now faces charges while being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail. During his initial court appearance, a judge ordered that he undergo a comprehensive mental health screening. This order comes as grieving family members revealed that Farfan-Cabello struggles with schizophrenia, describing the event as an absolute heartbreak for everyone involved.
Those living nearby said the violence may have been preceded by warning signs. Neighbors recalled seeing Farfan-Cabello behaving erratically in the streets, often yelling and screaming on street corners to the point that police were frequently called to the area. One resident mentioned that just the day before the killing, the young man had been knocking on doors throughout the neighborhood asking strangers for five dollars.
As legal proceedings begin, those close to the victim are focusing on their final arrangements for her passing. The family is currently coordinating efforts to transport Cabello-Ynocente’s remains back to Peru. Meanwhile, neighbors continue to express their shock and sympathy for a household torn apart by such a violent conclusion to a long struggle with mental illness.
