Dior Beauty is expanding its prestigious makeup portfolio with the introduction of two new additions to the Rouge Dior On Stage collection. Designed to offer a sophisticated alternative to traditional heavy mattes, the brand has unveiled Rouge Dior On Stage Matte, a classic bullet lipstick featuring a velvet finish, alongside Rouge Dior On Stage Ink Blur Matte, a versatile liquid option designed for a diffused effect. These launches serve as a stylistic counterpart to the previously released On Stage Shine, completing what Peter Philips describes as a yin and yang balance between high gloss and soft matte textures.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the formulas, Peter Philips, the creative and image director for Dior Makeup, noted that he wanted to move away from the rigid definition of matte in favor of a blurring effect. He explains that both new products utilize a unique two-phase application process where pigments initially bond to the skin before softening into a veil-like finish. This creates a soft-focus appearance that mimics a natural lip stain rather than an opaque mask of color, allowing users to transition effortlessly from a subtle daytime glow to a high-impact evening statement.
The development of these products was heavily influenced by Philips’ experiences working within Asian beauty markets, particularly in South Korea and Japan. Observing how K-beauty emphasizes seamless blending and buildable layering over efficiency and opacity, Philips integrated those philosophies into the new range. By focusing on thin layers that fuse with the skin, Dior aims to modernize the Western approach to lip color, encouraging consumers to treat their lips as sculpted features through shading and highlighting rather than simple applications.
To achieve the best results with these non-transferable formulas, Philips recommends starting with meticulously prepped skin. He suggests exfoliating dead skin cells followed by deep hydration with lip oils or balms during the rest of the makeup routine. However, he warns that any residual moisture must be wiped clean immediately before applying the lipstick to ensure maximum longevity. Whether using the precision engineered applicator of the liquid ink or the timeless gesture of the bullet lipstick, guests can build intensities—such as transforming a sheer cherry stain into an iconic vibrant red—to suit their personal mood.
