Kay Mitchell, a former mental health nurse in Lancashire, has been permanently removed from the professional register following a series of disturbing misconduct allegations. The Nursing and Midwifery Council determined that her fitness to practice was severely impaired after evidence showed she subjected a patient to both physical and emotional distress during an incident in early 2022.
Beyond her treatment of patients, the disciplinary committee uncovered a second shocking charge involving workplace toxicity. It was revealed that Ms. Mitchell attempted to orchestrate an attack on one of her own coworkers by urging another staff member to contact a former employee to carry out acts of violence. These combined actions led the panel to conclude that she posed a significant risk to the public and those within the healthcare system.
Throughout the legal process, Ms. Mitchell remained absent, failing to attend either this latest hearing or previous proceedings. The council noted with concern that she had shown absolutely no remorse for her behavior and had ignored all recommendations for remedial training or rehabilitation efforts meant to address her conduct.
Because of this total lack of engagement and the severity of the abuse, the committee ruled that striking her off was the only appropriate course of action. This permanent ban from nursing will officially go into effect on October 27, immediately following the expiration of her current suspension period.
